Deliverable 6.3 List of partners for a European Measurement Audit Programme

Measurement is fundamental to the application of statistics. It is essential to address issues of measurement before taking data seriously. It is the usual second phase in six sigma programmes. Many of the Pro-ENBIS partners are have expressed their interest in a European measurement audit programme. In particular the following members have registered their involvement:

Name Institution
Froydis Bjerke Matforsk (NOR)
Shirley Coleman UNEW (UK)
Oystein Evandt IMPRO (NO)
Anne de Frenne Math X (BE)
Rainer Goeb University of Wurzburg (DE)
Maria Ramalhoto UTL (PT)
Pedro Saraiva EQ UC (PT)
Xavier Tort Martorell UPC ES (ES)
John TyssedalNTNU (NO)
Henry Wynn LSE (UK)

The Measurement Audit will look at all sorts of measurements. These will include subjective measurements such as smell and taste, colour and opinions, systems measurements such as time to deliver and errors on invoices, as well as engineering type measurements of dimension, temperature, pressure and quality.

We are interested in a wide range of application areas including decision analysis, medical diagnosis, software sensors, mechanical & chemical processes.

There are a number of International Standards which deal with measurement. For example, standard ISO100012: 2003/4 Measurement Management Systems sets out the requirements for measuring processes and equipment. It has a lot of words but little statistical content. It is aimed at auditors who may not want to involve any theory or statistics.

There is an opportunity to make a contribution to the rationale of these standards.

A summary of the status of International Standards concerned with measurement is as follows:
